Trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy was performed in 19 patients after the failure of antioestrogens and other methods of hormonal manipulation to control advanced breast cancer. Remission of symptoms was obtained in 12 patients (66.6%) for more than six months and in seven patients (36.8%) for more than 12 months. Two patients have survived 53 and 55 months without requiring further treatment.
